Look Good: Recycle
The truth is out--a study has found that people who recycle are more attractive to the opposite sex. Finally, some research that supports the good looks, attractiveness, and overall glorious-ity of those of us who recycle. Am I right?
Read on to learn about what, specifically, the study found...
The nation-wide study, commissioned by PepsiCo, surveyed over 1000 Americans and found that recycling ranks as one of the most important things a person can do to influence their attractiveness. In fact, learning that someone recycles would make 40% of the survey respondents consider that person more attractive, which is even more than smarts (23% for a graduate degree), money (8%), or an impressive job (18%).
The survey went on to gather information that not recycling makes a bad impression, especially on a first-date, for example. Of the respondents, 22% said they would be turned off by a date that did not recycle in front of them.
I realize that I'm preaching to the choir here, but I hope that this research and the resulting articles on Yahoo and other sites like Glamour will make a few more people toss their plastic bottles into a recycling bin, knowing that potential dates and mates may be watching!
Although it's all a bit funny that this is something research money is being spent on (although I'm one to talk--working on word duration in German often doesn't seem too important to people outside of my field), it does show that people care about the earth. (Or at least that people care about people who care about the earth!) It really all boils down to the fact that we want to be around other people who are caring and compassionate, which is manifest in a very observable way through seeing whether someone recycles or not.
I hope you enjoyed these factoids as much as I did. Now get out there and show the world just how amazing recyclers can be!
