Some Homes Have An Unpleasant Odor
As a homeowner, you may notice unpleasant odors from time to time. This is especially true if you are a smoker or have pets. However, odors can also come from other sources. Everything from cooking to mildew can leave your home smelly. Luckily, removing odors from your home can be relatively easy.
What to Clean to Get Rid of Smells
Before you can clear your home of odor, you must find the source. Start by taking a look in your refrigerator. Throw out any food that may be spoiled. Next, clean your trash cans. To clean your trash cans, fill the can with warm water. Add a cup of bleach and allow to sit for a minimum of one hour. Rinse the trash can thoroughly before reusing. Once the kitchen has been cleaned, wash all of the drapes in your home. Drapes are an odor magnet. The same goes for bedding. If you have had a recent water leak, inspect the surrounding areas for mold or mildew. When mold or mildew is found, clean with a mixture of bleach and warm water.
Removing Odors with Vinegar and Baking Soda
Now that you have removed the source of the odor, fill several bowls with white vinegar. Place the bowls around your home. Allow the bowls to remain in place for at least 24 hours. When odors are coming from carpeting, saturate the area with baking soda. Leave the baking soda on the carpeting overnight. After all odors have been cleared, use odor free machines to keep your home smelling fresh.
