Sidral Mundet Apple Soda Prize Pack Giveaway

Have you heard about Sidral Mundet sodas? They're classic Mexican sodas that are really becoming popular here in the United States. I was lucky enough to receive a prize pack from Sidral Mundet containing their classic red apple soda and their newer green apple soda in addition to a t-shirt! My husband was so excited about the sodas that we had to drink them right away. And they were great! My husband liked the Green Apple the best and I really liked the Classic Red Apple best.

What do I like about Sidral Mundet Apple Sodas? First of all, they're delicious! Second, they're made with real sugar--no corn syrup here. Third, they're made with real apples, not fake artificial flavoring or colors. Fourth, they're packaged in glass bottles, which should be easy to recycle no matter where you live.

So, my dear readers, Sidral Mundet would like to shower you with gifts. One lucky reader (US only) will win a Sidral Mundet Prize Pack containing two sodas and a t-shirt. To enter, please use the easy rafflecopter form below. Good luck!

Happy Winning!

Ode to Buses and Breastfeeding

Today I spent $4.50 in bus fare. It seems like a lot, but then again, I did a lot of riding back and forth today: I went to campus, came home, went to campus again, and finally shuffled home for good. (So there were 3 bus trips and 1 car ride in there, if you were noticing that my trips didn't add up.)

Why am I
a) Traveling to and from campus so often?
b) Spending so much on the bus?

Well, the answer to a) is easy: I need to come home to nurse baby E. She does get bottles of pumped milk while I'm gone, but I really prefer her to only have one bottle a day. So I rush home during my 2 hour break between teaching and classes and fill her up. Then I grab some lunch for myself and it's back to campus for me. I've realized that my life basically involves going to campus and then rushing home to feed the baby. Always rushing home to feed baby E. That is going to make this semester rough, but breastfeeding is a top priority here!

Tomorrow: Win $130 Cash in the August Follow Frenzy!

Making Textbooks More Earth-Friendly

Did you know that per major university, over 1,000 tons of recyclable paper is sent to the landfill each year? This occurs even with paper recycling programs and facilities in place. (Read more about it here.) It's no wonder that universities focus most of their recycling efforts on paper, as this is where the most improvement and change can be made.

As a student, I know that I use a lot of paper each semester. I do try to buy recycled products (I vow to make an even greater effort this semester!) and I make sure to always recycle my used paper, but I know not everyone does. (I've seen paper in the trash in our office, fellow grad students! I'm calling you out!)

Red White and Green: America as an Environmental Leader {Guest Post}

A big welcome to Sarah from Made in USA Challenge, who has graciously agreed to be our guest poster today! Sarah is on a quest to find and purchase only American-made products in order to support "human rights, the environment, and the economy." Please visit her blog about her challenge and adventures at madeinusachallenge.com!

There are a lot of privileges that come with living in America. Sure, the economy is suffering, but we are still very fortunate. We enjoy clean running water, an abundant food supply and energy resources. With these privileges also comes responsibility. How we act locally affects the world's citizens globally. The United States remains the top emitter of CO2 gas--contributing to pollution and global warming worldwide. The good news is that our country has the resources, technology, and labor needed to lead the green movement through new environmental innovations. Now is the time for us to step up and take control of our nation's and our planet's futures.

A Lesson on Canning Tomatoes (Can It Forward Day!)

Are you overrun by tomatoes and zucchini? Canning and preserving foods are a great way to make sure that your abundance of vegetables doesn't go to waste. It is also a great way to use fruit and vegetables that are in-season when they're cheapest, most flavorful, most nutritious, and travel the shortest distance to get to you. And don't forget, August 13th is National Can It Forward Day! You can learn more about National Can It Forward Day (and get canning tips and instructions) on the Ball Canning website.

Today I went with two of my friends to a local farm to participate in a canning workshop.

Clean Teen Reads Review and Video Camera Giveaway! (8/3)

*Giveaway Closed*

Photo from Amazon.com

It's time to celebrate--we're having our first giveaway! I want to thank all those who have visited the Why We Love Green blog, followed, and left great comments. It has been so much fun getting to meet such great people! This giveaway is sponsored by Clean Teen Reads at CleanBooksforTeens.com, a site that provides detailed reviews of young adult books. Thank you, Clean Teen Reads!

Freebie Finding MomClean Teen Reads is a very useful website where teens and parents can read detailed reviews of young adult books. All reviewed books are carefully read to find and alert readers to any possible Offensive Language, Sex/Nudity/Reproduction, Drugs and Alcohol, Violence and Death, Dishonesty and Criminal Behavior, Witchcraft/Fantasy/the Supernatural, and any other elements that might concern teens or parents. Clean Teen Reads also outlines other useful information like books for reluctant readers, books for boys, and reading levels. New books are added each month.

As stated on the Clean Teen Reads Facebook page
"The CleanBooksforTeens.com website has three sections:
1) a TEEN SECTION provides reviews without getting too specific, so they doesn't spoil the book. Teen and tweens don't need to log in.
2) a PARENT SECTION provides reviews with detailed information, including spoilers. Parents and other adults over 18 may register for free to use this section
3) a SUBSCRIBER SECTION offers enhanced search options. Subscriptions are available to people over 18 for $12 per year."

I definitely recommend Clean Teen Reads to anyone who loves Young Adult literature. I have been able to find great books to read, that I otherwise would not have discovered. And the great part is, I know they're clean! It's hard to find reading material that is clean, and Clean Teen Reads has done the hard work for you! You can go to the site (CleanBooksforTeens.com or CleanTeenReads.com) and search over 120 books! And why is this green, you ask? Well, you will save time, resources, and money not buying books that you will later just get rid of. You will also be supporting an online business that creates no waste, has no packaging, etc. If you are interested in an easy way to evaluate books, then Clean Teen Reads is for you.

Clean Teen Reads has graciously offered to sponsor our first giveaway, which features the VistaQuest DV-700 Digital Video Camera!  This Video Camera is a video camcorder, digital still camera, and voice recorder all in one!  It's a cute, compact little camera and looks great for on-the-go use. Your prize includes the brand new Video Camera, charger, batteries, hand strap, and TV-cable.  Open to US and CANADA!
